Arctic Zero Recall for Undeclared Milk Allergen

Jul 11

There is a recall going on right now that you might need to be aware of if you are dealing with a milk allergy.

Arctic Zero Pints and Bars have been recalled to to an undeclared Milk Allergen.  They contain whey, and do not have the allergy warning “Contains Whey Protein”.

If you or your child have a serious milk allergy, then you probably wouldn’t have served this anyway because whey is listed in the ingredients list.  However, well meaning family members or friends may not have noticed.

This makes me think of a beef I have with Ice Cream Makers.  Ice cream and frozen products are often iffy items for me.  There are many brands of ice cream that do not put the allergy warning on the package.  In my opinion they should all have atleast the warning “Contains Milk”.  If it doesn’t have it, we err on the safe side and just skip it.  I know the ingredients are listed on the package, but the allergy warning is important to me because it shows if a product was manufactured with/around my kid’s allergens.

How do you handle this?  Do you let your kids eat products without the allergy warning?  Are there any “safe” ice cream products other than the obvious ones like So Delicious?
